چکیده

Existing meshand voxel-based modeling methods encounter difficulties when dealing with objects containing cellular structures on several scale levels and varying their parameters in space. We describe an alternative approach based on using real functions evaluated procedurally at any given point. This allows for modeling fully parameterized, nested and multi-scale cellular structures with dynamic variations in geometric and cellular properties. The geometry of a base unit cell is defined using Function Representation (FRep) based primitives and operations. The unit cell is then replicated in space using periodic space mappings such as sawtooth and triangle waves. While being replicated, the unit cell can vary its geometry and topology due to the use of dynamic parameterization. We illustrate this approach by several examples of microstructure generation within a given volume or along a given surface. We also outline some methods for direct rendering and fabrication not involving auxiliary mesh and voxel representations.

Uncertainty analysis of hierarchical granular structures for multi-granulation typical hesitant fuzzy approximation space

Hierarchical structures and uncertainty measures are two main aspects in granular computing, approximate reasoning and cognitive process. Typical hesitant fuzzy sets, as a prime extension of fuzzy sets, are more flexible to reflect the hesitance and ambiguity in knowledge representation and decision making. In this paper, we mainly investigate the hierarchical structures and uncertainty measure...

Space-Time and Higher Dimensional Modeling for Animation

There are limitations to the current BRep based “model then animate” paradigm when animating time-dependent (dynamic) objects. This paper describes an approach to modeling dynamic objects directly in space-time or even higher dimensional space. The use of the function representation (FRep) is proposed due to the ease with which it handles higher dimensions. After creating a multidimensional FRe...

FREP: a database of functional repeats in mouse cDNAs

The FREP database (http://facts.gsc.riken.go.jp/FREP/) contains 31 396 RepeatMasker-identified non-redundant variant repeat sequences derived from 16,527 mouse cDNAs with protein-coding potential. The repeats were computationally associated with potential effects on transcriptional variation, translation, protein function or involvement in disease to identify Functional REPeats (FREPs). FREPs a...

CNN Filtering in Log-Polar Space

Cellular Neural Networks (CNN) are proposed as processing devices for smart-pixel sensors for space-variant active vision. In fact, CNNs can implement the most significant low-level vision operations, and can be integrated together with onchip light-sensitive devices. The problem of porting CNN algorithms to a nonuniformly sampled grid is addressed, in particular for application to motion detec...

Cultural Heritage Preservation Using Constructive Shape Modeling

Issues of digital preservation of shapes and internal structures of historical cultural objects are discussed. An overview of existing approaches to digital preservation related to shape modeling is presented and corresponding problems are considered. We propose a new digital preservation paradigm based on both constructive modeling reflecting the logical structure of the objects and open stand...
